2017 Maitland Rotary Art Festival Preview

If you’re into art and music then this is the place to be on the weekend of November 10 – 12, 2017, at Lake Lily Park. Also, this art show is known as the Art Under The Stars This is one of the premier art shows in the southeast. Rain or Shine this event goes on.

It is a quick drive from Downtown Orlando to Lake Lily Park in Maitland. Sorry, no free parking near the event area. There is handicap parking near the Maitland Public Library. Some private businesses will be charging a parking fee to park your vehicle on their property. Parts of Maitland Avenue will be blocked off because of art festival.

This is one of the only art festivals in Central Florida that is open at night on Friday and Saturday only with extended hours. Sunday is normal festival hours. Each booth is lit up for the evening. There will be over 135 artists booths at this art festival. It is worth your time to see the artwork at night. It gives visitors a different perspective on the artwork. This art festival will be awarding a total of $26,000 in non-purchase awards to be given selected artists.

Other than artwork, check out the free entrainment at the large inflatable band shell (Main Stage) located on the southwest part of the park. Here are some of the acts which one will see such as Life on Mars w/Dave Schweizer, Colby Dance Studio, Orangewood Advanced Band, The Waverly’s, Kayonne Riley Trio, Layla Brisbois Band, Acapella Performance by Maitland Middle School’s KRAVEJISM & Glenridge Middle School’s Ms. Unnaturalz, Maitland Stage Band, Brad Catron Jazz Duo, Loetta’s Big Catch with Lauren Lester, and Sean Holcomb Band. Plus, there is a smaller venue stage located on the northeast side of the park. Here is a list of acts such as Dan Tayler and Layla Brisbois.

While walking around the festival, there will be many food and drink vendors to satisfy your appetite. Choose from pretzels, ice cream, pizza, burgers, and much more. Prices on food and drinks will vary depending on vendor. Beer and wine is also sold throughout the property of this art festival as well.

On Saturday, during the daytime visitors will see the festival judges going around to visit all the artist’s booths. This year’s judges are Tonya Cribb Curran from DeLand, Tyrus Clutter from Ocala, and Rebecca Sexton Larson from Tampa. To view a brief bio on these judges please visit the art festival website. The art awards will be given out to artists on Sunday morning, which is closed to the general public.

Don’t forget to check out the K-12 children’s artwork located in the Maitland Civic Center. See artwork mediums from sculptures, drawings, paintings, mix-media, photography, and much more. The children’s artwork is judge separately from the professional artists. Most of the children’s artwork has been recently creating from this past year. Many of these students are aspiring artists to be in their future.

For visitors who want to take photos of an artist’s artwork, please be kind and ask the artist first before taking any photos of their work. This is considered a courtesy to the artist. The individual artist owns the copyrights all of their work of art. Please respect the artist wishes if they decide not to let you photograph their artwork. Many of the artists have websites with images of their work for viewing.
