Off Topic – Tribute to the Life and Memory of Brett Kearney Bowman

Brett Bowman died suddenly on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. I am writing this article to extend my heart felt loss to and Cox Media Group Orlando family with the passing of Bowman. He was forty-eight years old. Bowman’s life started in North Carolina where he grew up. After high school he attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland where he graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Journalism and English. Before Bowman started working with, he previously worked at the Golf Channel in Orlando as a Producer. He had a passion for creative writing.

After working with The Golf Channel, he was hired and became the Content Producer with This is where he had been working hard at the TV Station for about fifteen years now. During his time at CMG, they then promoted him to Content Manager with . This is where Bowman ran day-to-day operations for He enjoyed what he did. What many people did not know about was that this was Bowman’s life. On the day of Bowman’s passing, Cox Media Group paid tribute to him on the evening broadcast and on the website as well.

Then on Sunday, January 28, 2018, there was a Celebration of Life for Bowman at Fiddlers Green Restaurant in Winter Park. There was a strong showing of support for Bowman. Even his wife Angela was very touched. Many of Bowman’s family, friends, and co-workers, came out to remember Bowman. His wife said this was the way he would have wanted it. Many people who attended this celebration of life wore Bowman’s favorite sports teams such as the Orlando City Soccer Club, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears. Plus, Bowman enjoyed listening to Pearl Jam the rock band. Some guests even wore Pearl Jam concert t-shirts too. The restaurant even played some Pearl Jam tunes over the sound system. Many people who attended the celebration of life talked in high regards to Bowman’s life that touched them.

With the time I spend with Bowman I wanted to share my short story about him. He and I worked together starting in late 2010 when I worked at WFTV Channel 9 as Security Officer Site Supervisor. I have a passion for photojournalism and I still do today. He gave me my start into becoming a Freelance Photojournalist for, which sent me out on various assignments. Then one day Bowman inspired me to expand my journalism skills by writing my own articles. I never thought I was a writer. Still to this day, I am writing many event articles. My various written articles are published at .

On one assignment from, I can remember Bowman sent me to the Orlando City verse LA Galaxy soccer game back in the spring of 2017. There is where I had a chance to captured Orlando City celebrating after scored a goal where Bowman was cheering from the stands in the background. He was located on the left side of this photo. Also, his good friend Brian Hughes was also celebrating too in this photo. A copy of this photo has been given to his wife at the celebration of life.

Bowman and I have always had great times together. He often talked about his wife, pets, Frisbee disc golf, and much more. Bowman will be definitely missed. It is unknown who will fill the Bowman’s shoes for There will be big shoes to fill. Since the day, I met Bowman; I want to continue his legacy through my life.
