Orlando City Soccer Club Management Eliminated OCB Team for 2018 USL Season

Written by Nathan Wertheimer

It was quite a surprise to find out the OCB was not playing in this 2018 USL season. Orlando City posted a press release on January 12, 2018, stating Orlando City B has elected to not participate in the upcoming United Soccer League (USL) Division II season. The Club will continue its discussions with USL to evaluate its options for future participation in the league. This information was posted at www.orlandocitysc.com .

In addition, the USL announced updated conference alignments for the 2018 season. Six teams join for the 2018 season: ATL UTD 2, Indy Eleven, Nashville SC and North Carolina FC, Las Vegas Lights FC and Fresno FC. More information on the new alignment can be found at uslsoccer.com.

My thoughts on why Orlando City management eliminated the OCB was for a number of reasons. First, fans attendance was not so great. For the fans, it was great hard nose professional soccer at a reasonable price. I’m sure going to miss the Tamp Bay Rowdies playing OCB at home. Everyone loved the interstate rivals on the war on I-4.

It is unknown if the former OCB Coach Anthony Pulis saw this coming at the end of last the 2017 season. There would not be an OCB team in the up incoming 2018 season. Pulis is now the current coach for Saint Luis FC in the USL. Most of the former OCB players from last season have found new soccer teams in the USL. Is there a USL club that wants to be affiliated with Orlando City A Team? Only time will tell.

Hopefully in the future Orlando City SC management brings the OCB team back. At this point, management will have to reevaluate the OCB team for the 2019 USL season. Stay tuned for more information about the OCB Team.
