The City’s 150-acre nature preserve dedicated to protecting our wildlife and ecological systems. Bring your family and friends to this free event. Rain or shine this event goes on.
Prepare your day for this event by dressing in comfortable cloths for the outdoors. Some other recommended items to bring are a poncho, a baseball cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, a bottle of water, bug spray, and a camera. Please do not bring any glass items, coolers or personal pets to this park. Service Animals are allowed inside the park. Park Rangers will ask you to leave if you bring any illegal items to the park. Please obey all the park rules.
It is a quick drive from Downtown Orlando to Southwest Altamonte Springs at Lake Lotus Park. Check your GPS for the best route there. There is plenty of free parking at the satellite parking lot located on the other side of the park near Maitland Blvd. Just look for Lake Lotus Parking lot signs directing drivers. Sorry, there will be a limited number of vehicles inside the park. This is for your safety and everyone else too. Upon arriving in the parking lot one can wait for a shuttle ride at the gazebo or walk underneath Maitland Blvd bridge to enter the park.
There will be many event activities that include: Live Music & Guest Speakers, Nature Exhibits & Park Tours, Crafts, Activities & Prizes, Plant & Tree Giveaways, Butterfly Gardening & Release, Live Bat Exhibition, Mineral & Gem Sluicing, Promotional & Food Vendors, and much more.
Plus, there will be Ranger Tours of this park. Each walk is limited to 25 participants. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the park ranger information booth. Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and be prepared to walk up to one mile. Don’t forget to bring your camera too.
Choose from two walking tours at this event. The Gator Walk is from 11 a.m. & 1 p.m.
Walk along the Little Wekiva River to the fishing pier to learn about the American alligator’s history, unique characteristics and place in the food cycle. You’ll get to meet a live alligator and search for them in the wild. And the second one is the Survivalist Walk | 12 p.m. which is a hands-on demonstration of survival techniques using items found in the wilderness.
