Press Release by City of Sanford
The City of Sanford and Seminole County are proud to announce the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is coming to Ft. Mellon Park in historic downtown Sanford. The Wall will be arriving at approximately 10 AM with a law enforcement motorcycle escort and will be ready for viewing later in the day. The Wall will then be available for viewing 24 hours a day through Veterans Day, November 11, 2019.
An Opening Ceremony is planned for Friday, November 8th at 11 AM and a Closing Ceremony will be part of the Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11th at 11 AM with both Ceremonies occurring in Ft. Mellon Park.
Each day there will be a flag raising ceremony, reveille, an invocation, the performing of the National Anthem, a flag lowering ceremony, retreat to the Colors and taps.
Monroe Hall (former USO building), 400 E. First St. and the Sanford Museum, 520 E. First St. will be open Friday, November 8 – Monday, November 11th from 9 AM to 6 PM for special presentations and veterans’ assistance programs.
The arrival of the Wall provides the City of Sanford and Seminole County with an opportunity to introduce our area to thousands of people arriving from throughout Central Florida to view it.
