Is Central Florida ready for Major League Baseball (MIB) Team? I believe the time is now to create and bring a new professional baseball franchise here to Downtown Orlando. There are a lot of questions that need to be answered. Pat Williams is heading this new crusade of bring baseball back to Central Florida. He has tried years ago and failed, this time maybe different. Orlando is a sports town. As a community we need to show MIB that Orlando can handle a 3rd professional sports team. Williams is quoted as saying “It starts with a dream.”
While more people move to the Central Florida. The numbers don’t lie. Currently, we are the 18th largest media market without a professional football or baseball team. There are currently 2.13 million people who live in the metro Orlando area and still growing. Orlando is the 3rd largest city in Florida behind Miami and Tampa. Information from worldpopulationreview.com
Over the years, MIB baseball has had many spring training teams and a few minor league teams as well. Many local and tourist supported these teams when they were here. Teams such as Brooklyn Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, Houston Astros, and Atlanta Braves all played in Central Florida at one time. Some of the past minor league team were here are the Florida Fire Frogs, Orlando Juice, Orlando Cubs, Orlando Rays, just to name a few.
Currently, Orlando does not have a professional baseball stadium. Many past baseball teams played at former Tinker Field in Orlando, which was torn down to make room for a parking lot for visitors at Camping World Stadium. Since then we have not had any minor league baseball games in Downtown Orlando.
Here is what we know so far about this new possible new baseball team. Orlando is looking for a new franchise at the moment. If that can’t be done, then I think Orlando will go after the Tampa Bay Rays because they are in a tight position right now to build a new stadium in Tampa. Tampa may have leverage now if Orlando brings in a new team. We have to wait and see.
Finally, “if you build it they will come.” This is a quote of the movie Field of Dreams. I think Orlando is a field of dreams in general. Williams has presented a case for bring a new baseball team here. I’m not against having a team. If Central Florida can support a team than I’m all in. I believe most people will agree. Now is your chance to come out and support this new Orlando team. For more information on this possible new baseball please visit www.orlandodreamers.com .
