The Zora Festival is a large cultural event, which takes place in the heart of Eatonville. This festival is presented by the Association to Preserve the Eatonville Community, Inc. Visitors will find this festival is about the celebration of the arts and humanities. The festival is being held on Feb 1 & 2, 2020. This is a family friendly event and everyone is welcome to attend. Admission is $10 per person. Free admission to children and youth (current student I.D. may be requested) enrolled in public or private grade school.
It is just a quick drive from Downtown Orlando to Downtown Eatonville. There is very limited parking in the residential neighbors. Look for signs directing drivers for festival parking. Parking fee may range from $10-$20 per vehicle. The closest parking near the festival is near the Wymore Athletic Field. Other off site parking may have a shuttle bus running to and from festival.
Who is the Zora Neal Hurston? Zora was the most significant collector and interpreter of Southern, African American culture, Zora Neale Hurston™ (1891-1960) is the dominant female voice of the Harlem Renaissance era. In her works, she celebrates her hometown, Eatonville, as representative of the dignity and beauty of rural Southern, African-American life and culture. A consummate storyteller, she brings to her readers an authenticity based on her primary research.
There are many things to see and do at this year’s Zora Outdoor Festival of the Arts. Spend a few hours or the whole day checking out the International Marketplace, Healthy Lifestyles Pavilion, The Hurston Museum, Fine Arts, Community Stage and More. It is advised to pick up the official festival program schedule to find of the daily activities and entertainment.
One will see many hand-made inspired African themed and other various styles of artwork. Plus, there will be other vendors and service providers selling a variety of products. Prices will vary depending on product. Most vendors take cash however some may take credit cards. There will also be an ATM on location at this festival.
Enjoy some great live entertainment on the main stage. This year’s entertainment is the Public Announcement, Michel’le, Howard Hewett, Alonzo, Charlyce Simmons, Kemuel “KT” Jones, 1Voice (featuring John Polk), The Roses, Kris Henderson, and James Alderman.
If you get hungry at this festival there is an International food Court with a variety of freshly made foods and drinks. The types of food one will find are burgers, chicken, pizza, BBQ, and much more. Prices will vary depending on food item.
Another attraction at this festival is The Hurston Museum. This place is an art museum in Eatonville, Florida. The Hurston is named after Zora Neale Hurston, an African-American writer, folklore, and anthropologist who moved to Eatonville at a young age and whose father became mayor of Eatonville in 1897. “Its mission is to provide a place “in the heart of the community” where the public can view the work of artists of African descent, who live on the Continent and/or in the Diaspora”.
