It is that time again for this year’s Casselberry Mardi Gras Music Festival which is being held on Saturday, February 22, 2020, from 5pm – 10pm, at Lake Concord Park. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event. Rain or shine this event goes on.
This event is only a short drive from Orlando. There are many routes to take to arrive at this event. Please check your GPS for the best travel route. Parking near Lake Concord Park is very limited. Here are some areas where one can park their vehicle and walk over to the park. There is plenty of parking at the Casselberry Target and Home Depot. It is recommended to get to this event early for the best parking spaces. There are a limited number of handicap spaces near the Casselberry Police Station and Casselberry City Hall public parking lot. The event address is 4195 S U.S. Highway 17-92, Casselberry, Florida 32707.
Don’t forget to bring your folding chair and or blanket to sit out on the lawn in front of the stage. Anywhere you sit will be the best seat in the house. Relax and enjoy some great music. It is recommended to leave your coolers at home.
The Subdudes, famous for roots rock out of New Orleans, will headline this event. The foursome, formed in 1987, blends zydeco music, folk, swamp pop, R&B, blues and country with their harmonic vocals. The band these days consist of original members Tommy Malone (vocals/guitar), John Magnie (vocals/keyboards) and Steve Amedee (vocals/percussion) and then Tim Cook (vocals/percussion) who joined in 2014. The Subdudes came together after backing artists such as Joni Mitchell and Roseanne Cash and released its first album in 1989. Now 12 albums later, the group is ready to showcase their love of a mix of covers and originals.
Opening this free Mardi Gras Music Festival will be local favorite, Beth McKee, a singer/songwriter/pianist/accordion player and former member of the popular New Orleans country-cajun band Evangeline. Recently selected by Orlando Weekly as one of the 14 musicians that are reshaping the Orlando music scene, Beth McKee’s New Orleans roots will shine when she brings her “Funky Time” band.
There also will be a Mardi Paws parade starting the evening at 5 p.m. Arrive early to sign-up your dog for this parade. All dog breeds are welcome. Who will have the best-dressed dog in the parade?
Besides the music there are vendors and artisans selling and providing services. Check out the many local companies on hand. Just about all crafts and fine arts are hand made by the individual artists. Some items you’ll find are handmade soaps, candles, fresh honey, floral arrangements, artwork in and various styles. Plus, there will be some service vendors such as investment planning services, insurance brokers, and much more. Prices on items and services are reasonable. Don’t forget to bring cash. Some vendors may only take cash while others take both cash and credit cards.
One can’t forget the food. There will be plenty of food vendors on hand with a variety of food and drinks to choose from. Prices range from $2 – $15 depending on what you order. On average a full meal can costs about $10.
