The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival is one of the premier art shows in our country. See some of the top artists and craftsmen showcase their work in the heart of Winter Park on Park Avenue. This art show is being held from March 20-22, 2020. This event is free and open to the general public. It is worth a visit to see this high end art show. Rain or shine this event goes on.

There is some interesting history behind the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival. The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival is one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most prestigious outdoor art festivals. The Festival debuted in March 1960 as a community project to bring local artists and art lovers together. It is produced by an all-volunteer board and draws more than 350,000 visitors each year. Over 1,100 artists from around the world applied for this year’s Festival. An independent panel of three judges selected the 225 artists exhibiting their works. The Festival consistently ranks as one of the top juried fine-art festivals in the country. Recent accolades include the #4 ranking in Art Fair Calendar’s “2016 Best Art Fairs” and Art Fair Source Book’s listing in their “Top 10 Fine Art Shows, 2016”. The Festival is also listed in Sunshine Artist Magazine’s “Top 100”. Information found on the festival website.

This year’s featured Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival poster artist is Victor Bokas. The posted depicts three colorful birds. He describes the poster as [Springtime 2020” is a mix-media collage. I wanted to incorporate many elements that are featured at the art festival. The iconic Peacock is surrounded by paint brushes, artist palette, film strip, sculptures, roses from the garden, stain glass, fabrics and many other elements. The “Winter Park type treatment” also features some historical landmarks including the Langford hotel, Colony Sign, Rollins College and the Scenic Boat Tour. I hope the viewer spends time looking and finding different elements throughout the poster.] Learn more about this extraordinarily talented artist below. Information from WPSAF.

Bokas resides in Central Florida. Victor’s work is featured in several galleries and permanent collections in Central Florida landmarks, including Orlando City Hall, Orange County Convention Center, Orlando International Airport and the Mennello Museum of American Art.

In many of his pieces, he pays homage to his Greek heritage by incorporating statues, columns and vases. He also playfully mixes in 3-D elements. Grids, squares and other graphic design elements rove in naturally to lend structure and direction. No doubt, his long career as a graphic designer ingrained a sense of order to his hyper imaginative settings. Victor’s career path includes 9 years Senior Art Director for Sea World and 20 years Senior Art Director Tupperware.

‍A self-described “collector of kitsch,” his studio is filled with vintage flea market finds. His collection is a source of inspiration and items from it are often incorporated. Victor obtained his degree in Graphic Design from the University of Florida. Victor can often be found working well into the night, preparing for his next exhibit. For more information on this artist please visit http://www.vicotrbokas.com .
