2020 Tokyo Olympics Officially Postponed

Information compiled and written by Nathan Wertheimer

On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee put out a joint statement. There are many athletes in Central Florida training for this year’s Olympics. I am sad to say, the athletes will need to continue to train and focus on next year’s Summer Olympics. This was the best move that the ICO could make. This Coronavirus does just affecting the athletes, but you have to consider the staff, and spectators from around the world. There was a chance there would be a second wave of the virus at the Summer Olympics too. No one wanted to see this happen.

If you planned on visiting this year’s Olympics please cancel your plans. There is no date set for next year’s summer Olympics yet. Once there is a date, then go ahead and make your plans. It is unknown what the travel, food, and hotel costs will be. The Olympics will go on.
