It is that time of year when everyone should be preparing Disaster Preparedness. Now is the time to get ready in case anything should happen. Don’t be caught off guard while you stand in long line at a retail stores after a man-made or natural disaster hits.
The State of Florida Government drafted The 2019 Disaster Preparedness tax-relief package (HB 7123) was passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis. This sales tax holiday begins Friday, May 29, 2020 and extends through Thursday, June 4, 2020.
During this sales tax holiday period, qualifying items related to disaster preparedness are exempt from sales tax. However, the sales tax holiday does not apply to the rental or repair of any of the qualifying items. Additionally, the sales tax holiday does not apply to sales in a theme park, entertainment complex, and public lodging establishments or airports.
Here are some recommended items to stock up on: assorted batteries, coolers, first aid kits, portable generators, gas containers, tarps, plastic sheeting, bungee cords, radios, etc. Prices on items will vary by store. Note some items might not be on this year’s list. Double check with store associates for a tax-free qualifying purchase.
