UPDATE as of 8/27/20: DB Research posted a statement on their website. The text message you received was not a solicitation from their company. Do not contact them and disregard that text message.

This past week, I received a text message from phone number 1-850-940-3861. This was an unwanted text message that was sent to me. I was curious why I received this text message. This is when I started an investigation into this message. You are probably curious about it too.

Here is the exact message that was sent to me. [Hi I’m Whitney from DB Research with a quick survey. Would you vote to re-elect President Trump if the election was held today.? 1. No and 2. Yes]

Do I have to answer their survey? The answer is no. It is unknown if this is a creditable election survey at this time. Who cares if you want to re-elect President Trump. This is a personal choice. Today’s election climate survey is skewed. Are people honestly going to tell you whom they really are voting for? We have seen this in the past and the news media got it all wrong. Where would they use this information that they are collecting. They failed to disclose the entire election survey.

Who is DB Research? There is little information on the web about this company. While conducting the investigation I found one company with “DB Research.” It has been confirmed that this company never sent me that text message.

The area code 850 is the Florida panhandle, which includes Pensacola, Tallahassee, and Panama City. There have been other phone numbers with the same text message that were spoofed too.

It is unknown how they got my private phone number. To get rid of this annoying text message reply back with “STOP.” Then you’ll receive another text message back with [You have successfully been unsubscribed. You will not receive any more messages from this number. Reply START to resubscribe.]

The only way to stop this unwanted text messages is by sending your state and federal elected representatives a letter/email to take action on this problem. Without your help, this problem will still continue.

Finally, this case is now closed. If we get more information in the future we will update this article.

  1. This is the second time I’ve received a text from them. I dont have the first number but this latest one is +1 480-618-7657.
Does it really stop them by replying “stop”? I hate to respond to these things at all.
