Press Release by Wekiva Island
Artist Christian Stanley painted the work to represent the attraction’s values
ORLANDO, Fla. (March 1, 2022) — Calling all street art aficionados and photo background hunters. There’s a new mural in town.
Wekiva Island recently completed a work of art on a shipping container at its Longwood location meant to complement the gorgeous natural setting and convey the company’s values of art, sustainability and education. The mural is located near where Central Florida adventurers launch canoes and kayaks at the riverside attraction, and the work features an impressionistic take on a river scene, complete with a kayaker, flora and fauna and an otter.
“This mural represents what we’re all about at Wekiva Island,” said owner Bill Weinaug. “It’s art, obviously, and I’ve always had a passion for the arts. It also depicts the amazing Wekiva River and many of the elements that make it special and that we fight to protect via sustainability efforts. Finally, we strive to educate people who visit us, so we hope people will take a second to look at this piece and see something new, maybe be driven to learn more about this special place.”
Weinaug worked with local muralist Christian Stanley to bring the work to life. Stanley is a professional artist with a background in graphic design. He has completed works in Memphis, Tenn., as well as in Lakeland, Inverness, and Ocala. He has several pieces around Central Florida and has worked with brands like Heineken and Orlando City Soccer.
For the project, he presented Weinaug with three options, then combined two of the concepts into the final vision for the work. He said the piece at Wekiva Island aligns with his style with an impressionistic take on nature that incorporates bright colors.
Stanley completed the mural in late February over the course of a week painting outdoors. The piece is located at Wekiva Island, 1014 Miami Springs Drive in Longwood.
