By Robert Voss,
It seems like every week now that I’ve been getting an email from an Amazon scammer. I am not surprised anymore. Why are they targeting me? Surely, they are looking for a victim to collect information on. Well, I’m not falling into their trap. So I started another investigation into this email.
The current spam email from Amazon that I received with the subject line of “Account On Hold” from no-reply@amazon.com (real email address is no-replies@news.lakeside.com) This is NOT an official email from Amazon. Always look at the real email address where it came from.
Who is News.lakeside.com ? It is believed a scammer is using this reputable name to pull off their scheme. There is not a name with news and lakeside.com together. The website lakeside.com belongs to a retail out called The Lakeside Collection. They have nothing to do with Amazon on their website.
This email copy reads, “On no, your Account on hold due to a billing issue.” (Orange button marked “Update Payment Information”). Hello User, We weren’t able to process billing payment due to a problem with your card. This means your account are on hold. Please update your payment information within the next 6 days to continue. Thank you, Amazon.com Customer Service.
On the footer of this email says [© Amazon.com Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Amazon, Amazon.com, Prime, The Amazon.com logo and 1-Click are registered trademark of Amazon.com Inc. or its affiliates. Amazon Services, Inc. 410 Terry Ave, Seattle, WA 98109-5210.]
Note the email address on the bottom of the email from valeriewebster@yahoo.com.
Email Alert! When reviewing the fake email there are many red flags that come up. Just look at the entire email with no official email address from Amazon, description of the problem, and how to resolve it. This scammer doesn’t know what they are doing and just phishing for victims. These types of fake emails have been going on for a while Amazon has asked if you see any type of fake Amazon email to please forward to them to stop-spoofing@amazon.com . When you send Amazon an email about this subject matter they will auto reply email about “Your Amazon.com Inquiry.”
They will investigate it and take possible action against the individuals and or company responsible sending you a fake Amazon email. For more information about this problem please visit www.amazon.com .
