2017 Central Florida Fall Arts and Crafts Events

Written by Nathan Wertheimer

Orlando, FL – The Fall season of art and crafts shows has already begun. Central Florida has some great art shows around. These shows are a great way to met the artist and get to know personally before you buy one or more of his or her works of art. All of these art shows are free to browse with no obligation to buy any of their artwork. Most of the artists make their living selling their works of art. Help support your local fine arts community.

Before going to one of these art shows it is recommended to plan your day right. Start by checking out the website of the art show you’re visiting. They will have important information such as available parking areas, artists, map of event, and vendors.

Once arriving at any numbers of art shows, Saturday’s are one of the best days to buy work of art early because the artist is showcasing their best work on display for the judges. While your looking around, you might spot a judging committee walking around too by visiting all the artists’ booths with their work. These judges have been hand picked by the art show committee. Many of these judges have an art background in education, gallery owners, and art career.

Here are some tips on looking for artwork at any art show. Before buying any artwork you must extremely love the artists work. There are no returns if you don’t like it. Most of the artwork is one of a kind, which is rare to find reproductions at an art show. There are small works of art that are reproductions such as postcards, photos, and prints. Many of the works range from $5.00 and the up thousands of dollars. When purchasing works of art most professional artist take credit cards. Just look for the credit logos hanging around the artist’s cash register.

Casselberry Art House Review

casselberryarthouse

Written by Nathan Wertheimer

Casselberry is a small town in Seminole County, which is Northeast of Downtown Orlando. The Art House is owned and managed by the City of Casselberry. What makes the Art House unique is the art exhibits, art classes, lectures, and much more.

The Art House is easy to get to. They are located at 127 Quail Pond right near Casselberry City Hall off of State Highway 17-92. Just look for the colorful art deco style house. There is plenty of free parking nearby. They are open Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm.

There is a lot of history behind the Art House. The city opened the Art House in 2002. With the 2,500 square feet of space, the city wanted to use the space for many functions. The house is nestled in a quiet, park-like setting on Lake Concord, the Casselberry Art House continues to provide a wonderful opportunity for residents, Central Florida businesses and other organizations to enjoy and appreciate art.

Throughout the year the Art House has many different types of art exhibits. Many of the art exhibits are from professionals to amateur artists. These art exhibits are free to view. Some art exhibits have 80 – 100 pieces on the wall along with sculpture works as well.

One can even take an art class for fifty dollars for a six-week class. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to be an artist and learning the craft of creating a masterpiece. The Art House offers oil paining, watercolor painting, drawing, and much more. To register for a class go to https://apm.activecommunities.com/casselberryparksandrec/Home

Margaret Noel Fine Art Exhibit at Seminole State College Review

Written by Nathan Wertheimer

Sanford, FL – It is a start of the New Year and artist Margaret Noel was selected to have a solo art exhibition inside the Seminole State College Fine Arts Gallery from January 19 – February 20, 2017. Noel displays her landscapes and abstracts architecture drawings throughout the art gallery. On the opening night, this artist was unable to her art exhibition.

When arriving on Seminole State College property to visit this art exhibit, you will want to park closest to the Performing and Fine Arts Building. Parking is free. The college art gallery is open Monday thru Thursday 10am – 3pm and during intermission theater performances. The art gallery admission is free to visit, but they kindly ask for any kind of monetary donation to keep the college art gallery open and running strong.

Upon walking into the Fine Arts Gallery a visitor will notice medium size drawings hanging on the wall. There is a total of 19 works of art from Noel. Her work is quite intriguing to look at. She gives the viewer a sense of being there whether in her abstract architecture or her landscapes pieces.

There were three drawings I picked out to critique from her art exhibit. The first drawing is entitled “Façade 1” and was created by ink on gessoed panel. This work can be described as an abstract architecture piece. The drawing has cross hatching lines throughout the entire artwork. Because this piece is a black and white, there is no color anywhere in the drawing. The perspective of the drawing shows many straight lines with repetition of shapes. The viewer may envision this piece looking like a part of a building. Also, Noel has posted that this drawing is not for sale.

The next Noel drawing is entitled “Structure 1” and is a copper point and ink on gessoed panel. When one looks at this piece it is considered to be an abstract architecture drawing. There are many repeated shapes in this piece. One will notice the vertical and horizontal lines that intersect which are cross beams. The viewer will overall think this piece is a building under construction. What gives this away is the open building structure along with the construction scaffolding in between the buildings. It is unknown the location of this building. There are a few colors used in this piece, which are a copper color, tan, gray, black, and white. Also, Noel has posted that this drawing is not for sale.

Finally, the third drawing is entitled “Rebuild 1” and is a copper point and ink on gessoed panel. Noel created this as an abstract drawing. The drawing has monochromatic brown in the piece. The artist gave the brown a washed look throughout her piece. Viewers will notice many repetition shapes and forms in her drawing. In some areas of her piece there are some geometric shapes. As a viewer it is hard to tell what this artist is trying to create in her piece. In my perspective it looks like an unfinished structure of some kind. Also, Noel has posted that this drawing is not for sale.

If your interested about learning more about this artist please visit her website at www.margaretnoel.com . On her website one will find her latest art portfolio, biography, and past exhibitions. She is a well-respected fine artist.

The next Seminole State College Art Gallery featured artist is Sean Sexton featuring paintings, drawings, and ceramics. Opening reception is on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 5-7pm. Her art exhibit will run from February 23 – March 15, 2017. For more information go to: www.seminolestate.edu/arts/events/gallery
