2017 Central Florida Fall Arts and Crafts Events

Written by Nathan Wertheimer

Orlando, FL – The Fall season of art and crafts shows has already begun. Central Florida has some great art shows around. These shows are a great way to met the artist and get to know personally before you buy one or more of his or her works of art. All of these art shows are free to browse with no obligation to buy any of their artwork. Most of the artists make their living selling their works of art. Help support your local fine arts community.

Before going to one of these art shows it is recommended to plan your day right. Start by checking out the website of the art show you’re visiting. They will have important information such as available parking areas, artists, map of event, and vendors.

Once arriving at any numbers of art shows, Saturday’s are one of the best days to buy work of art early because the artist is showcasing their best work on display for the judges. While your looking around, you might spot a judging committee walking around too by visiting all the artists’ booths with their work. These judges have been hand picked by the art show committee. Many of these judges have an art background in education, gallery owners, and art career.

Here are some tips on looking for artwork at any art show. Before buying any artwork you must extremely love the artists work. There are no returns if you don’t like it. Most of the artwork is one of a kind, which is rare to find reproductions at an art show. There are small works of art that are reproductions such as postcards, photos, and prints. Many of the works range from $5.00 and the up thousands of dollars. When purchasing works of art most professional artist take credit cards. Just look for the credit logos hanging around the artist’s cash register.

2017 76th Annual Daytona Bike Week Preview

Written by Nathan Wertheimer

Daytona Beach, FL – The sounds of the hogs will be rolling thru the Central Florida for this one-week event. Whether you’re new to Bike Week or a seasoned veteran of this event. Everyone is welcome to participate at this year’s event. If you planning for this year’s Daytona Bike Week, just leave your young children at home. This is a place for adults only. You never know what you’re going to see for the day. It is advise to arrive early before the crowds show up. Bikers from all over the country head to Daytona for some good times.

Once arriving into Daytona on International Speedway Blvd go directly straight towards the beach were most of the bikers are gathered. I recommend stopping off on Beach Street at Daytona Bike Week Official Rally Information Booth. Where they have maps and brochures. While you’re on the mainland, check out the many different vendors selling bike trailers, custom seat cushions, bike detailing, food and drinks, plus entertainment. There are many live entertainments areas at various bars around town.

After leaving the mainland, I headed over to the beach side. If your driving a car, there are a few private parking lots that charge $10-$15 per vehicle to park. I could not find any free parking for cars. However, there is free bike parking on Main Street where all of the action is. If you’re looking for piece of mind for your motorcycle there are paid private parking lots from $5-$15 per bike.

There are many attractions and shops on Main Street to check out. Here are some of the highlights. Check out these saloons such as the Full Moon Saloon, Boot Hill Saloon, Dirty Harry’s, Froggy’s Saloon. Boot Hill Saloon has always been one of the bikers’ famous hangouts. Besides drinking catch some great music in the outside stage underneath a tent.

One will not get bored of Main Street. You can people watch all you want. At some of the saloons, people are sitting along the railing facing the street watching bikes and cars drive down the street. There are some bikes that turn people’s heads from custom bikes, trikes, to stock motorcycles.

After a full day at Daytona Bike Week, take it easy while driving back home and or to your hotel. One will see many bikes and vehicles out on the road. Remember to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you. Don’t drink and drive. Law Enforcement is out looking for drunk drivers too. Don’t be that person who’s had too much to drink and hits and kills another person while driving. Drink responsibly!

If you did not have a chance to attend this year’s Daytona Bike Week than mark your calendar for next year’s event on March 2018. Make your plans now. Deland, FL – Many people play and collection model toy trains, railroad artifacts and railroad memorabilia. This venue is a one-stop shop on all train parts and accessories for the best prices around. This event is held on Jan 14 & 15, 2017, at the Volusia County Fairgrounds in Deland inside the Tommy Lawrence Arena. This is a family friendly place!

When driving down to the Florida Rail Fair in Deland, it is an easy drive from Orlando or Jacksonville. The Volusia County Fairgrounds is just two blocks east on State Road 44 right off of I-4. There is plenty of free parking available.

Upon walking into the Tommy Lawrence Arena, one will be greet by the event admissions staff member at the door. Once one walks thru the doors there is about 250+ tables and booths to purchase model train merchandise. There are all different brands of the model railroads from Lionel, Buchmann, and much more. Plus, there are various sizes from gauges, HO, OO, N, O, G, TT and Z.

If you already have a train set, there are plenty of accessories to add to your favorite train set at home. At home, pre-plan your train track layout on paper. Then start with a flat wood surface to build a track layout. Next, one will want too creative your own city or town. You’ll need some train tracks, buildings, vehicles, mini people, and other items. What better place to see the largest selection of merchandise for any train set.

After buying some model train merchandise, one needs to check out the large model train set located in a separate building. Most people are amazed of a few live model train sets at this venue. If you spot a Train Operator at the controls you can ask him or her all the questions you want. One might be surprised by the answers to get.
